THE 2006 CHAMPIONSHIP
October 13-15
As always, participants competed in a city other than the ones which hosted a regional event. Unlike past years, where we kept the cat in the bag until the competition began, the location of the 2006 Championship event was officially announced at the Toronto City Chase event on August 26th, 2006.
Chicago here we come!
Known as the Windy City and home to such icons as Al Capone, Oprah Winfrey and Michael Jordan, Chicago proved to be the perfect setting for the first ever City Chase World Championship. Twelve teams from around the globe representing major Canadian cities, as well as both England and Australia experienced The City Chase in a continuous 36 hour all-night adventure, to determine who would be the 2006 City Chase Champion.
Competitors to date include:
- Team Vancouver - Jen MacLean & Mike Hales
- Team Edmonton - James Dean & David Quaschnick
- Team Calgary - Nicki Rehn & Jen Silverhorn
- Team Toronto - 1a* Anthony Woods & Erik Woods

* The Toronto1 event on June 24th ended in a tie. Both teams received an invitation to the Championship event.
** Team Extra is determined by random draw (to take place on Aug 30) from the 8 teams selected as the Team Extra candidates at the Canadian regional events

Teams arrived on Thursday October 12th and were greeted by the first Chicago snowfall of the year – a nice, but scary, touch for the Aussies who had never even seen snow before!
During the official welcome teams learned a few very important facts:
- The adventures would continue without break until the team reached the finish line on Saturday afternoon, and
- Not all of the teams would reach the finish line.
After the shock of the news set in, teams enjoyed The Champions Supper where they got to know each other and were outfitted with their official race jerseys. Some teams seemed deep in thought about the task ahead, others were trying to locate a 24 hour outlet where they could buy gear to fend off the cold, and the rest just kicked back and took everything in stride.
That evening teams bunked in groups of six in downtown Chicago's Hostelling International where they strategized, slept, formed alliances, etc.
Their journey ahead would cover hundreds of kilometers from the quaint northern suburbs, to the ghettos of the South, East into Lake Michigan, West to Brookfield, and as high as 14,000 feet straight up.
