FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Before you email or call The City Guru check out the categories below for a list of questions and answers that might just put your mind at ease. COMMON QUESTIONS How good of shape do I need to be in? City Chase combines a variety of physical, intellectual, adventurous and humorous challenges. If you come to a ChasePoint that is too challenging, you always have the option of looking for another one. Teams must complete only 10 ChasePoints (out of a possible 12 or more) . Most of the physical demands of the event will be traveling between ChasePoints. Some teams choose to run, others walk, and some plan their route strategically in order to utilize as much public transit as possible. How well do I need to know the city? It's a benefit, but it's also expected that you'll learn on the fly. A smart team with a good map and a working knowledge of the transit system will certainly compete for the crown. What is The City Chase “Shake-5”? Think about it as a combination of your typical handshake and a high-5. The "Shake-5" is often used by Chasers as a greeting, a sign of encouragement, and a way of saying thank you, with other teams, staff and volunteers, and even total strangers who are encountered throughout the day. What is "The Mitsubishi VIP Passing Lane Card" ? If you are lucky enough to find/earn a Passing Lane Card throughout your City Chase adventure, you can submit it to the staff at a ChasePoint of your choosing to gain VIP access to the front of the line. If other VIPs arrive before your team plays the card, you will proceed following their attempt. CHASEPOINTS Is there a preset course the participants need to follow in The City Chase? No. Teams are free to chart their own course between ChasePoints throughout the event. In fact, in order to miss delays at busy ChasePoints close to the start line some teams opt to go to the further one and work their way back. How do I find out the exact location of each ChasePoint? Each team will be given a clue sheet describing the list of the ChasePoints near the start of the event. The list will provide you with the exact location of some of the ChasePoints while providing only puzzles or clues or equations that will lead you to others. What happens if there is a line up? It is very common to be faced with lineups in every day urban life and it is no different in this event. With hundreds of teams hitting the city at once, lineups are inevitable. Plan your route carefully and remember … you always have the option to move on to the next ChasePoint. What happens if I can't find a ChasePoint? Keep looking. Be resourceful. Call for help. Ask other teams for support. If you're still stuck, you can always move on to find another ChasePoint ... you only need to complete 10 of the available ChasePoints in order to finish. . Do we have to eat any gross food? To officially complete The City Chase you must complete only 10 of the ChasePoints available. It is up to you which ChasePoints you complete, and in which order you do them. REGISTRATION Can I register without a partner? Yes, you can! But the entire team entry fee is due at the time of registration. You may change your teammate up until the day before the event but you must ensure that the correct information is recorded when reporting at the pre-race check-in. How much does it cost? Entry for a team of two, no matter what age or gender, is $150 CDN per event How many Teams will compete in each City Chase? The field is limited in each market based on various space restrictions but most markets will have roughly 400 to 600 teams. How old do I have to be to participate in The City Chase? All Chasers must be at least 18 year of age at the time of the event Are there any restrictions on the genetic composition of a team? Both team members need only be human and have a pulse. Team composition is entirely up to you! Father/Son, Husband/Wife, Boss/Gopher, Roomies, Neighbours! What do I get with my Registration?
Can I use a car or taxi to travel the course? No. Teams may only travel by foot or on public transit – any exceptions will be clearly outlined prior to the event. What's to stop people from using a prohibited form of transportation? Don't worry … we will know! Top notch video surveillance techniques, an army of field marshals, the other 998 participants, and the thousands and thousands of passers-by who would love to bust a couple of cheaters!! Can the registration fee be refunded? A refund of $100 will be provided only until 30 days prior to the event. If you wish to cancel your participation for any reason please contact the City Guru at cityguru@citychase.com – a written request is required. IMPORTANT - within 30 days of the event there will be No Refunds for any reason. THE RACE How long does The City Chase last? Each of the eight regional events will last between 3 to 6 hours, followed by an post-party where teams can share their strategies and war stories, enjoy a slide show of images from the day, and possibly even win some great prizing. How do I win The City Chase? The first team to cross the finish line with a valid Race Bib containing 10 official ChasePoint stamps is the winner. To be considered finished a Team must cross the finish line together from the intended direction. Alliances? Can teams work together during the event? Utilizing the aid of other teams or complete strangers throughout the event is encouraged. Some ChasePoints may actually require you to work with the assistance of others in order to complete the challenge. What Is The National Championships? Check our National Championships page for full details. PRIZING City Chase focuses more on the journey than the destination. As such, a large component of the prizing distributed, will not be based on a team results. Instead, prizes will be drawn at random from participant feedback forms submitted at the official City Chase after party. Grand Prize In addition to the earning the right to represent Canada at the 2010 World Championship, where they will experience an epic multi-day adventure against teams from countries around the world, the winners of the Canadian Championship will each win an All-New 2011 Mitsubishi.
