TEAM SINGAPORE''S TRIP TO UGANDA 2008

Chasers! As we near the end of our 2010 Summer we thought it best to share the experience that Team Singapore (Winners of The 2008 City Chase World Championship''s) had when they won a trip to visit a Right To Play location in Uganda.

Jeremy and David Crane - The 2009 World City Chase Champions will be visiting a similar location this fall so please stay tuned for details of their "once in a lifetime" trip to a Right To Play location!

TEAM SINGAPORE

Hi Guys,

We arrived back from Uganda 10 days ago, after an amazing visit to the Right to Play projects in Kampala and Nakivale Refugee Camp, and a visit to see the Gorillas in the wild.

We’ve attached some pictures as well as a bit of a daily wrap up that we wrote whilst we were there.

We raised over $2000USD as a donation towards the Right to Play programs for the kids in the slums of Kampala and the Refugee Camp in Nakivale.
The donations we made will keep 50 kids in the program for 1 year in each of the 2 locations.
We also distributed around 100 small RTP balls and addidas caps to the projects we visited, as well as blankets and clothing to an orphanage in Nairobi.

We witnessed what an amazing tool these programs are in getting the kids together and learning about the problems that face them on a daily basis – HIV, orphaned children, rape, bullying, interracial fighting etc. Every kid in the groups we joined ended the session out of breath and with a huge smile on their faces! We also saw parents from rival nations watching as their kids played with one another at the refugee camp. (the RTP activities have helped greatly to harmonise relationships between nationalities at the refugee camp). The educational component to the RTP activities was a surprise for us, with the kids giving very reasoned and candid responses to the questions posed in the sessions.

We could really see that the programs and games were helping the kids learn life lessons in an active & fun environment. This is something we really came to admire about the RTP projects.
After visiting the RTP projects we extended a few days to see the Gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, which capped off an amazing & truly memorable trip.

We’d like to extend our thanks once again to City Chase & Right to Play for giving us the opportunity to take up this incredible prize! We got amongst it in true city chase spirit, getting some races happening with the kids at the projects, doing a stretch of the journey on push bikes with bananas on the back…and learning bush survival techniques from the local guerillas (the ones with AK47’s not the hairy ones), perfecting the 3 finger paralyzing pincer move in the process.

It was fantastic to have Carmen from Right to Play Canada, and Jane, a Canadian Olympic Rower on the trip to make it that much more memorable. (Thanks to Carmen it looks like we’ll be over to Toronto for a visit in 2009 ;-) )

Good luck to everyone in the respective city chase events in 2009, hoping someone makes it back to the World Champs…!

Regards,

Greg & Cam
